Canadian schools are roughly divided into five categories, including: elementary schools, middle schools, community colleges, tertiary colleges and universities. Educational affairs are managed by the Ministry of Education of the provinces and taught mainly in English.

Primary and secondary schools
Canada’s secondary and elementary schools are divided into two categories, public and private. Public schools are mainly local students and do not provide boarding. The school will arrange overseas students to provide host families and arrange to live in Canadian families; while private schools provide boarding or home accommodation.

Community College / Technology College / Tertiary College
Community colleges / technical colleges / tertiary colleges mainly provide courses in applied art, business, engineering and vocational training. Students can complete the course within one to three years and will be issued a certificate or diploma after graduation.

University
There are ninety-five public and private non-profit universities in Canada (belonging to the Association of Canadian Universities). The university offers a large number of graduate and undergraduate degree programs, vocational certificates, completion certificates and graduation diploma programs, as well as short-term vocational training courses. Most offer three types of degrees: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. After completing a three-year or four-year bachelor’s degree, each province will award a bachelor’s degree. An honours degree usually contains deeper learning content and additional credits.
